If you are organising the birthday yourself and only need the food handled, we cater the table and leave the rest to you. In Cascais that usually takes one of two shapes: a delivery of ready platters that you set out at your own pace, or a delivery with our team staying to serve. Both work for parties at home, in a garden, or at a playroom or club along the coast.
Delivery-only means the platters arrive covered, arranged and ready to put on the table, with clear notes on what needs to stay cold and what can sit out. With service, we come earlier, lay the table, keep it looking presentable as children raid it, and take the dishes away at the end. Parents with a small kitchen or a garden party away from the house usually choose the second.
Children eat in passing, so we build the table from things that survive being picked up and put down: mini sandwiches, cheese and grape sticks, small pastries, vegetable batons with a mild dip, fruit cups. Sauces go on the side, colours stay bright, and nothing needs a knife. We also keep portions small so the table looks full for longer.
Most Cascais children's parties land between three and six in the afternoon, after school or a morning at the beach. That is an awkward slot — too late for lunch, too early for dinner — so the food sits between the two: substantial enough that no one goes home hungry, light enough that dinner still happens. If the party is at Guincho or on an exposed terrace, we plan for wind and bring covers.
We regularly do small home birthdays of ten to fifteen people; below that a delivery of platters is usually the sensible option.
We can include a cake or a dessert table, but many families bring their own cake and we simply plate and serve it.
