MamaVera puts together birthday buffets for adults in Lisbon, from a dozen friends on a terrace to a hundred guests in a hired hall. A buffet lets people move, talk and eat at their own pace, which is what most adult birthdays actually turn into after the first hour. We cook to our own recipes, bring the tableware and equipment, and can staff the evening so the host is a guest at their own party.
We usually build in three waves. Canapés and finger food when guests arrive, so nobody stands empty-handed during the awkward first half-hour; then the main buffet with two or three hot dishes, roasted vegetables, salads and breads; then dessert, and the cake, brought out at the moment you choose. The proportions shift with the crowd — a late-evening party leans towards finger food, an early one towards a fuller main table.
The cooking is Mediterranean with a Slavic touch: slow-roasted lamb or pork with herbs, baked fish with lemon and fennel, stuffed vegetables, our own salads and pickles, plus warm pies and dumplings if you want something less predictable on the table. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dishes are cooked properly, not assembled from side plates. We taste and adjust the menu with you before confirming.
We cater in private flats, rooftop terraces, quintas, galleries and rented event spaces, and we work in Cascais, Sintra, Oeiras and Estoril as well as the city itself. If your venue has no kitchen or crockery, we bring the buffet tables, linen, plates, glassware and cutlery. Our team sets up, serves through the evening, clears and takes everything away.
For a party of three hours or more we plan a full buffet portion per guest plus a canapé selection on arrival; for a shorter drinks-led evening, finger food alone is usually enough.
Yes, that is common in Lisbon venues. We cater the food and coordinate with the venue's bar so the service timing still matches.
